NEAT Took the SHOW on the Road!
The Smart Home on Wheels (SHOW) officially debuted at the Assistive Technology Conference of New England on November 30th to the delight of many who toured the new mobile demonstration center. The SHOW is a wheel chair accessible tiny house which features many of today’s commercially available smart technology such as smart lights, thermostat, window shades, door lock, tv control, the new Alexa controlled Amazon Smart Microwave and much more. Participants were able to control elements of the SHOW by utilizing 5 access methods which include: Speech (Alexa, Google Home Assistant & Siri), touch (iPad), head movement, eye-gaze, and switch control.
New technology can feel intimidating for some individuals, and thanks to AARP, we will also offer a free smart home device lending library, which will allow people 50 and over and individuals with disabilities to get their hands on a device for free and try it out in their home environment to see if it will work for their unique needs.
Look for the SHOW to hit the road again beginning in early 2019 to reach people with disabilities and people 50 and over throughout the region and show them the full array of technology available to support independent living.
