SAN FRANCISCO, August 25, 2014 – Special education administrators are responsible for ensuring that students with special needs receive a free and appropriate public education. However, an ever-evolving legal environment leaves school districts vulnerable to legal blunders when developing and implementing educational programs for students with special needs. To help special education administrators stay up-to-date—and educate their colleagues in general education—PresenceLearning is hosting a free webinar with Julie Weatherly, Esq., an expert in special education law, on Tuesday, September 23, 2014 at 10 AM Pacific time (1 PM Eastern time). Both procedural and content-related mistakes can be the basis for determining that a school district has denied a student with disabilities a free appropriate public education (FAPE). This two-hour webinar will highlight five practical do’s and don’ts for special education administrators to consider when implementing the requirements of the Individuals with Disabilities Act (IDEA) and will provide answers to questions submitted by a live audience.
After attending this webinar, participants will be able to:
● Identify important process and content errors that can lead to special education vulnerability and litigation
● Implement strategies for avoiding common mistakes in the development and implementation of programs for students with disabilities
● Understand current legal issues and policy shifts that are impacting special education
About the SPED expectations:
To give special education administrators access to expert advice and best practices, PresenceLearning created theSPEDexpectations fall webinar series. This three-part series will feature special education experts Julie Weatherly, Esq., Dr. Barry Prizant and Dr. Alan Coulter, to discuss avoiding due process, family collaboration and results-driven accountability (RDA) respectively.
Since 2009, PresenceLearning’s online speech therapy services have provided schools with a practical, affordable new option for service delivery: web-based access to a nationwide network of live, highly qualified, fully licensed speech-language pathologists who are available whenever and wherever they are needed. This past year, PresenceLearning added occupational therapy (OT) and online assessments for both speech and OT to their service offering. By partnering with PresenceLearning, school districts can fill staffing gaps related to acute and chronic SLP and OT shortages, reduce high caseloads for onsite personnel, reduce their backlog of assessments, improve student outcomes and become more efficient. PresenceLearning also offers access to technical specialists, as well as culturally and linguistically diverse speech-language pathologists and occupational therapists.
PresenceLearning has delivered nearly half a million live online therapy sessions to students in public school districts, charter schools and virtual schools of all sizes nationwide.
